Greetings Cultural Survival community!

We hope this email finds you healthy and safe! We know that this past year has been difficult and our team wants to extend gratitude to you for all of the love and support you’ve shown us this year.

Today, we are kicking off our countdown to our Annual Day of Giving, June 1, as we approach our 50th anniversary in 2022. Entering into our fifth decade is a major milestone and as an organization, we have implemented some incredible, transformative shifts.

We are now a staff of 28 from 10 countries who are majority Indigenous and majority women.
Our upcoming plans include:
* Continue to build Indigenous leadership and capacity internally, and on the ground with our partners.
* Expand our Indigenous-led grantmaking through our Keepers of the Earth Fund and Indigenous Community Media Fund, and deepening our leadership in the field of philanthropy.
* Conclude our staff-led, bottom up strategic planning process.
* Roll out Cultural Survival’s new strategic direction, a holistic, rights-based approach that works on the nexus of land rights, food sovereignty, grassroots Indigenous climate change solutions, Indigenous media and the leadership of Indigenous women and youth.
* Continue to host various groundbreaking dialogues and a large, virtual conference that focuses on the intersection of Indigenous languages, biocultural diversity, climate change, Indigenous women, land justice, and food sovereignty.

In addition to our own growth, we continue to work diligently to support our Indigenous partners and the larger global Indigenous community in their self-determined responses to COVID-19. More information about our recent work can be found here ([link removed]) .

As we know, our Indigenous relatives are experiencing disproportionate rates of inequities during this time, including limited to no access to information, holistic medical care, medical supplies, food, housing and more. In addition to navigating this pandemic with these added roadblocks, Indigenous Peoples steward over 80% of the world’s biodiversity. At Cultural Survival, we understand that the health of Indigenous Peoples is intimately intertwined with the health of our planet. Investing in the health and longevity of our planet and its ecosystems means we must also invest in Indigenous leadership.

Please join us in celebrating 49 years of milestones by donating to our #CS50 campaign ([link removed]) today! Donations from partners like you make up over a third of our revenue, and your support plays a critical role in the success of our organization. From all of us at Cultural Survival, we thank you for your continued support and ongoing commitment to upholding Indigenous rights and self-determination worldwide.

In solidarity and gratitude,
Galina Angarova (Buryat)
Executive Director

Cultural Survival advocates for Indigenous Peoples' rights and supports Indigenous communities’ self-determination, cultures and political resilience since 1972. We envision a future that respects and honors Indigenous Peoples' inherent rights and dynamic cultures, deeply and richly interwoven in lands, languages, spiritual traditions, and artistic expression, rooted in self-determination and self-governance.
