The state budget should not be rushed.
Contact your legislators today at 1-800-362-9472 and tell them NOT to support efforts to gut the budget. Recently introduced proposals to remove over 300 budget items, including BadgerCare expansion, juvenile justice reforms, and many more aimed at addressing racial equity, are ill advised and poorly timed. The legislature’s Joint Finance Committee needs to take more time on these critical issues and review the input from the public they received.
Recently introduced motions would remove many proposed budget items without allowing an appropriate amount of time for the legislature to consider the testimony of thousands of Wisconsinites. Call your legislators and tell them NOT to support these motions because Wisconsinites who took the time to share their comments with state lawmakers on budget issues of great importance to them should receive the proper respect and consideration they deserve.

Despite the fact that many feel unsafe in large indoor gatherings due to the pandemic, the legislature’s powerful budget committee held three in-person-only budget hearings, and offered just one virtual budget hearing. This resulted in many people not having an opportunity to testify other than leaving comments on the committee’s website. More than a thousand Wisconsinites made their voice heard on that site.
To have a budget that works for all Wisconsin children, families, and communities takes public input. Joint Finance Committee members should take the time to hear, read, and process the comments of their constituents before moving forward.
Call your legislators at 1-800-362-9472 to let them know you do not support these hasty actions to gut the budget and move it forward without more consideration.
The decisions our lawmakers make today will affect all Wisconsinites for years to come - tell them to put politics aside and take all opinions into account. Tell them NOT to gut the budget.
