Help us to keep Covid-19 cases low in Nottingham

A message from City Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Sally Longford:

sally longford

I?d like to start by saying a huge congratulations to the Nottingham Panthers for becoming the Elite Series 2021 Champions. This is great news for their many local fans and something we can all feel proud of as a city. I know that their army of fans will have much missed seeing them at home in the Ice Arena and at away matches. The country?s progress out of lockdown is cheering news to many sports fans and Nottingham has many teams to be proud of and many exciting matches to look forward to.

To continue to enjoy more freedom including live sports, it is important we follow some simple steps to tackle the spread of the virus in Nottingham:

* Follow the restrictions [ [link removed] ] set out in Step Two of the Government Roadmap
* Book your vaccination through the national booking link [ [link removed] ] when you?re eligible
* Take a regular, free, rapid lateral flow test, even if you don?t have symptoms. Accessing a test has never been easier ? find out all the ways here [ [link removed] ]
* Ensure you book [ [link removed] ] a Covid-19 test immediately if you are experiencing symptoms
* Remember to follow the main Covid-19 behaviours, Hands, Face, Space and Fresh Air.

I was relieved to have my second vaccination at King?s Meadow Campus this week - it really does feel that we can all the see light at the end of the tunnel now.

*Over 2,000 calls for help from renters in Nottingham*

House for rent image

Most landlords in Nottingham are good, but there are some who let the side down and every tenant deserves to live in a clean and safe home. In the last year we have dealt with over 2,000 requests for help from people living in private rented housing ? many about serious housing condition issues.

The council?s housing licensing schemes are here to help maintain or improve property standards; despite the pandemic, our Safer Housing team has been carrying out physical inspections in the most urgent cases and virtual inspections for others. Urgent issues the team has found include fire hazards, filthy and vermin riddled homes, faulty boilers, cold bedrooms, leaking roofs and mould. The team work with landlords to improve housing, but sometimes they need to take stronger action, which can include Civil Penalty Notices and Prosecutions. Following the council?s intervention, improvements were carried out at over 220 properties between April 2020 and March 2021.

*Nottingham City Libraries: The Next Chapter *

The Next Chapter - libraries graphic

The way people use library services has changed and will continue to do so ? and we need to make sure we evolve to meet these needs. This week we launched the first phase of our public consultation, ?The Next Chapter,? to enable the council to find out what people value about our libraries and your ideas to improve them. ?

The survey can be completed online and will take about ten minutes. Make sure you let us know how you think library services could be developed to support local communities and help shape the future of library provision in the city.

You can find out more about the survey here: www.nottinghamcitylibraries.co.uk/the-next-chapter/ [ [link removed] ] and start the survey here: www.nottinghamcitylibraries.co.uk/survey [ [link removed] ]. All responses will be entered into a prize draw with the chance to win a family ticket to ?Titus: T-Rex is King? exhibition at Wollaton Hall this July.

*Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner election ? tomorrow!*

Nottingham Skyline

Tomorrow, everyone in Nottingham who is registered to vote can choose the person they want to become Nottinghamshire?s Police and Crime Commissioner. It?s an important role, overseeing both our police and fire service. You can see who the candidates are here. [ [link removed] ]

Our polling stations are open 7am ? 10pm, and our elections team will be working hard to make sure everyone can cast their vote safely. Please help us by bringing your mask and your own pen or pencil, and sanitising your hands when you enter. You don?t need to bring your poll card with you.

If you opted for a postal vote for tomorrow's election but have missed the last post it?s not too late, you can hand it in at your polling station instead. Some people may find they are unable to vote on the day as they have been told to self-isolate suddenly or have symptoms of Covid-19. If you experience this you can apply for an emergency proxy vote.
