After four years of escalating division in America, President Biden's speech to Congress last week may finally be helping people come back together.
A CBS News poll found that 85% of those who watched the speech approved. In our current era of political polarization, that is an unparalleled demonstration of unity.
It turns out that the supposed far-left Biden agenda that Republicans have tried to demonize is broadly popular. People want to rebuild the infrastructure in our country, which would create good-paying union jobs and fight climate change. Americans want paid family leave and affordable health care. We all want a president who will fight for the policies that help our communities prosper.
According to the same poll, viewers of the speech described Biden as “caring,” “inspiring,” and “bold.” Just a few months removed from the disastrous and divisive Trump administration, it's clear that most Americans feel strongly that Joe Biden is righting the ship.
But radical Republicans are already planning out their next attacks. Broad support for progressive policies has never stopped them from fighting against those policies, and it won't stop them now.
