56 House Republicans voted to overturn Nevada's election results on January 6, after a deadly Capitol insurrection that cost five lives.
As the election results were certified, Nevada Democratic senator Catherine Cortez Masto rose to condemn the violence she saw that day and the GOP's efforts to overturn the votes of millions of Americans in her state. In her words, “The people have spoken in this election, and our only job here today is to do what they ask.”
Sen. Cortez Masto stood her ground, defending our democracy in a chamber that eventually acquitted Donald Trump for inciting the Capitol riot.
Now she's one of the GOP's primary targets going into the 2022 cycle.
Sen. Cortez Masto is the first and so far only Latina senator. She defeated her Republican opponent by just 2 points in 2016, and flipping her seat is Mitch McConnell's best chance at taking back the Senate next year.
We can't afford to let the GOP flip even one seat this cycle, John -- especially not that of the only Latina to serve in the Senate. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto has spent her term defending voting rights, advocating for working families, and promoting affordable health care for all. She deserves better than to be replaced by a Trump puppet.
