WEBINAR | The Smoking Room with Jacob Grier
Date: Thursday 13th May 2021
Time: 6.00-7.00pm (UK)

Jacob Grier doesn’t like cigarettes. He doesn’t smoke cigarettes. He advises people against smoking cigarettes. And yet he believes that adults should be allowed to smoke cigarettes without being harassed, demonised, over-taxed and thrown out of every building in America, including, in some cases, their own home. This view, which was once so uncontroversial as to go without saying, makes him virtually a libertarian provocateur today.

Author, journalist and professional bartender Jacob Grier writes about tobacco, public policy and other vices. His articles have appeared at Slate, Reason, The Atlantic, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Daily Beast, Eater, Imbibe and many other publications.

Articles include 'A Ban on Menthol Cigarettes Will Lead to More Confrontations Between Black People and Police' (April 2021), 'A Smoke-Filled Room of One’s Own: The liberal case against ever-expanding smoking bans' (March 2021), 'The Vaping Crisis Is a Moral Panic Led by Anti-Smoking Crusaders' (October 2019), and 'We Used Terrible Science to Justify Smoking Bans' (February 2017).

His books include The Rediscovery of Tobacco: Smoking, Vaping, and the Creative Destruction of the Cigarette (2019), and Cocktails on Tap: The Art of Mixing Spirits and Beer (2015).

On Thursday 13th May Jacob will join us from his home in Portland, Oregon, to discuss smoking, vaping and how to make a decent cocktail.
