Washington, DC - OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates is excited to announce the promotion of Thu Nguyen, former Director, to the Deputy Executive Director position. Prior to joining the staff at OCA National Center in 2017, Thu interned and worked at the OCA - Greater Houston Chapter. We are excited for the energy and progress her leadership brings.
“Thu joined OCA as an associate four years ago after interning with the OCA - Greater Houston Chapter, and has steadily taken on advanced positions of responsibility and leadership,” states Linda Ng, National President of OCA. “Thu is a valued member of OCA and understands the history and organization operational values and its long term mission. She leads by example with her positive can-do approach that inspires her team to do their best. I support Thu’s promotion and know she will apply her leadership, skills and knowledge to positively impact OCA’s policy strategy.”
“This is an exciting moment to witness in the long legacy of OCA,” says Ken Lee, CEO of OCA. “Seeing Thu’s growth over the past four years has shown us that the next generation of AAPI leaders are on the rise. The leadership and membership of OCA are anticipating how she will grow and shape the vision of our organization.”
"The OCA Business Advisory Council (BAC) is excited to help Thu grow into the role of Deputy Executive Director. Her knowledge of advocacy for the AAPI community, passion to grow OCA's existing strategic partnerships, and drive to create meaningful change from local communities to the Hill shows the power of the next generation of leadership. The BAC looks forward to the work we'll do hand-in-hand with OCA in ensuring our communities in need are heard, supported, and given a chance to thrive,“ says Joanne Tabellija-Murphy, National Director, Public Affairs-Corporate Affairs at Walmart and Chair of OCA’s Business Advisory Council. “Thu continues to build the foundation of knowledge and wisdom needed to maximize non-profit and corporate partnership. I’m thrilled that the OCA board and leadership wants to position this emerging generation of leaders to advance OCA’s work in social justice, activism, policy change and much more. It is our responsibility to support these leaders who will address the systemic racism that is needed to make sustainable change."
