Friends,
In the year since George Floyd’s murder, millions of protesters have spoken out to demand that our country transform our justice system and protect Black and Brown lives.
Yet we’ve read story after story and seen video after video of police officers harming protesters with the very brutality they are protesting, including in the wake of the police murder of Daunte Wright.
This is an outright violation of protesters’ safety and constitutional rights.
While the House once again passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act — a bold piece of legislation to end qualified immunity and address police violence — it is clear that we need to take further action to prevent future killings.
That’s why Ilhan introduced legislation to criminalize police violence against protesters to hold law enforcement accountable for egregious attacks against civilians. This is especially important as dozens of Republican legislatures introduce bills to criminalize and punish protesters and ignore police accountability.
Will you add your name next to Ilhan’s to call on Congress to support her legislation to protect the rights and safety of protesters?
No one should have to live in fear of being hit with gas grenades or rubber bullets simply for exercising their constitutional rights.
Thank you for speaking out to help stop these human rights violations.
