Late this winter, Greg Gianforte showed us his most recent trophy: wolf “1155” from Yellowstone National Park. A wolf who had worn a radio collar for three years and was being tracked by National Park Service biologists.

Gianforte was later cited for violating Montana hunting regulations because he had never taken the required education certification. He won’t even confirm that he trapped the wolf himself. He may have just shown up to shoot a wolf that was already trapped by his wealthy friend whose property is the location of the hunting violation.

This is NOT how we hunt in Montana. Through his recklessness and carelessness, Gianforte is disrespecting our hunting regulations, our research investments, and the ethics of fair hunt during the legislative session when he should be running the state as its new Governor.

In Montana, we have a proud legacy of conservation and wilderness protection. We are stewards of the environment first. However, it is evident that Gianforte does not embody our values as Montanans and instead believes that he is above the law.
