Friends,
I first want to thank you for your continued support. Because of our grassroots Democratic movement, we hit our April fundraising goal and are on track towards building the infrastructure we’ll need to protect vulnerable Democrats in 2022.
As we start the month of May, I also want to discuss an important cause. This month is AAPI Heritage Month! During the month of May, we celebrate the many ways Asian and Pacific Islander Americans have shaped and contributed to our country’s history.
While we celebrate these contributions and their achievements — in art, science, politics, culture, and more — we must also recognize the discrimination and violence these communities have endured throughout our nation’s history. With AAPI hate crimes dramatically increasing, we must confront this intolerance head on and work to end it.
Last month, I shared with you the discussions I had with local AAPI leaders - including the San Diego Asican Pacific Islanders Coalition, the Asian Business Association, and AARP - and I asked you to join me to support San Diego County’s resolution to denounce hate against the AAPI community. Today, in recognition of AAPI Heritage Month, I’m asking you to once again join me in our efforts to condemn hate crimes and demand action at our local, state, and federal levels to support and protect our AAPI communities:
San Diego is home to a rich and resilient Asian American community — we stand with them and celebrate their heritage this month and every month.
Thank you for standing with your neighbors.
— Scott
P.S. The San Diego Public Library has put together an incredible resource bank in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month for young and old — check out their events, books, and resources!
