While President Biden reaffirmed his support for lowering prescription drug costs during his first address to a joint session of Congress, he has stopped short of including it in his American Families Plan, the President’s next big legislative package.

And so we need to put a little more muscle behind our fight to get the recently reintroduced “Lower Drug Costs Now Act" (H.R. 3) passed in Congress and onto President Biden’s desk for his signature. As you know, one of the most important and long overdue provisions in this critical bill will allow Medicare to negotiate directly with drug manufacturers for lower drug prices. And we're fighting to ensure the $450 billion in savings is used to expand Medicare to cover dental, hearing and vision care.

The government negotiates the prices of almost everything it procures, and there is no reason prescription drugs shouldn’t be included. The Veterans Administration has been negotiating with drug makers for years, saving more than 40% on prescription drug costs. Of course, the only reason for any lawmaker to oppose Medicare drug price negotiation is if they don’t want to challenge Big Pharma executives who wield a lot of money and political influence in Washington.

So please ensure your voice is heard loud and clear by your U.S. Senators today by signing onto our nationwide Petition to support the “Lower Drug Costs Now Act.” There must be swift action to tame the punishing prices that force older Americans to forgo necessary medications, to ration pills or to choose between prescription drugs and other essentials — like rent and groceries!
