Before enrolling at schools in Utah this past winter, 11-year-old Rosa Bermudez and her brothers missed out on roughly two years of regular education while their family sought refuge in the United States. Rosa, who is now learning English, is among asylum seekers whose journey in the midst of a pandemic caps off a seemingly unending cycle of trauma and helplessness ([link removed]) , a story we bring you this week.

In our continuing coverage of the pandemic’s impact on education, we’ve also learned that colleges and universities are cutting costs by increasing the number of courses faculty teach, along with the number of students in them – and why some faculty are pushing back.
