Friend --
Over the past several months, President Biden has laid out one of the most ambitious policy agendas of any president in decades. These policies have the potential to fundamentally transform American society for the better. And what kind of support is he getting from the Republican Party? Absolutely none.
One thing is clear: The American Jobs Plan and American Family Plan won't be able to get a single Republican vote for either proposal no matter how the negotiations go.
This means not a single Republican is willing to vote for:
- Infrastructure upgrades that will create jobs and build a green economy
- Making the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes
- A national paid family leave program that would allow Americans to care for sick children and family members without the fear of going hungry or losing their homes
We've always expected this from the truly extreme figures in the Republican Party. No one ever thought that Matt Gaetz, Jim Jordan, or Ted Cruz would vote for anything that President Biden proposed. But this reporting means that even the supposedly moderate Republicans are going to stick to their toxic party line and vote against these commonsense policies.
If we want this strong, progressive agenda to be enacted, we need to raise the resources necessary for Democrats in Congress to keep their seats in 2022 and expand our majorities in both houses.
