Dear John,

A new book about James Buchanan, the renowned American economist who pioneered the use of economics to understand how decisions are made collectively — particularly in politics, was released today.

Born in rural Tennessee in 1919, from an early age Buchanan developed a deep skepticism of elites and political power. He went on to earn a PhD in economics at the University of Chicago; teach at several universities; and win the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences.

Buchanan’s work evolved into an entire field of economics known as “public choice” and reflects his deep contributions to economic understanding.

You can download the complete book – for free! – and view several short videos summarizing key points of individual chapters at www.essentialjamesbuchanan.org. [[link removed]]
