I’m on the ground in Virginia right now, John.

It’s easy to forget that there are elections THIS NOVEMBER with the media obsession on every last detail of every last Trump tweet. When it’s not Trump, it’s the Democratic Primary race. We’re lucky if the media covers anything else.

Despite the media blackout, we’re on the verge of flipping the state of Virginia from purple to blue. That’s right, we’re supporting 14 candidates statewide, but we only need to win 2 races in both the State Senate and the House of Delegates to finish the job we started in 2013.

I’m here working with our campaigns from now until the election. Whether it’s voter targeting and turnout modeling or volunteer recruitment, candidate mentoring or hands on management of phone banks, door knocking or all of the above, DFA is playing a critical role in Getting Out The Vote for strong progressives across the state.

DFA members from out of state might not realize what’s happening in Virginia, but I can assure you that voters here know. The energy on the ground here is high. You can feel the excitement in the campaign offices of State Senate candidates Qasim Rashid, Amanda Pohl, Ghazala Hashmi, and Amy Laufer to highlight just four of our endorsed progressives fighting to defeat Republicans.

In the House of Delegate races, progressive challengers Joshua Cole and Jessica Foster are fighting hard and have built strong campaigns talking to voters every day and night about their vision for Virginia. Superstar incumbent Delegates Danica Roem and Elizabeth Guzman aren’t sitting back taking reelection for granted either. They flipped Republican seats in 2017 and they’re not going to let them flip back.

And I haven’t even mentioned yet Karl Frisch or Joseph George running for School Board, Kenny Boddye for Board of Supervisors, or Josh King for running for County Sheriff, all running strong campaigns in districts we can win.

It looks good. It feels good, but we can’t take anything for granted. Every campaign still needs to step it up and get to the next level if we’re going to bring it home.
