Friend,
The biggest mistake elected officials and political parties make is not investing in our youth. I don’t just mean through legislation and resource allocation. I mean engaging young people year-round in the political process so they can become leaders in their communities today and into the future.
This past weekend, we launched our youth fellowship program―the 2021 Mama Lila Cabbil Youth Civic Engagement Fellowship―to train young people ages 15-21 to become organizers on issues ranging from racial justice to defending our democracy to water as a human right and more.
The 14 young people we selected are already organizers in their schools and local organizations. We’re fostering their dedication to activism and public service through this fellowship―and paying them each a $1,000 stipend.
So far, we’ve raised $10,000 toward the youth fellowship. Can you donate $5 today to fully fund this critical program that’s investing in the next generation of political leaders?
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately:
Our youth organizers will come together once a month for the rest of the year to learn from local organizers and develop their skills. The average age of our organizers is just 18 years old. 93 percent identify as BIPOC and 79 percent identify as female.
Here are some quotes from our organizers from our first weekend:
“I liked hearing people describe the reasons they applied for this fellowship and are interested in the fight for equity in general.”
“I love learning about issues that need help or are worth fighting for, and seeing the great work my peers are doing. It makes me so motivated and inspired.”
“The meeting was amazing! I like how everyone spoke up and got to interact with their peers.”
“Thank you all for a great first day! I'm excited to continue to learn from and with you!”
If you can, please donate today to fully fund the 2021 Mama Lila Cabbil Youth Civic Engagement Fellowship—and help train the next generation of political organizers and leaders.
Thank you for all you do for our movement for progressive change.
Always serving you,
Rashida
