Time sensitive? ? ? ? ? DEVELOPING? LCV's policy teams have gotten a heads up that a major announcement is imminent on Biden's 30 by 30 plan to conserve 30 percent of the lands, waters, and ocean in our country by 2030.
This could be big. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland has been announcing major policy initiatives nearly every week since her confirmation.
She recently revoked a series of Trump-era policies that were designed to fast-track offshore oil and gas leases, and strengthened requirements to allow communities the opportunity to give public input ahead of development projects.
With this 30 by 30 announcement imminent, we're looking at a shot at doubling the amount of protected land in this country.
Winning a campaign this big is going to take all of us, friend. Koch Brothers-funded extremist groups are already putting up fierce resistance. We're calling for a response from every LCV member right now to mount a major pressure campaign.
Please ? donate today. This is a huge moment for the conservation movement. Even $5 is enough to make a difference ? every contribution is being triple matched right now ? [link removed]
We're hoping for big news in the coming days. Last month, Haaland visited Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments ? areas that Trump had gutted protections for.
Bears Ears represents critical sacred, cultural, and natural heritage for many tribal communities. Five tribes ? the Navajo, the Hopi, the Ute Mountain Ute, the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation, and the Pueblo of Zuni ? have led the fight to protect these sacred spaces from Big Polluters.
Since Trump rolled back protections for these monuments, fossils and remnants of Native American settlements have been vandalized. Graffiti has been scribbled over ancient rock art. They've been opened up to the threat of mining.
The 30 by 30 plan could help restore protections to these monuments as well as the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National ? for which Trump also removed protections ? but it can't stop there. The plan has a real shot at making access to nature more equitable, so that all people in this country have access to green spaces, regardless of race or zip code.
We're talking about doubling the amount of protected lands ? working with local communities to expand and create new national, state and city parks and other protected landscapes, and significantly expanding the ocean areas off-limits to drilling and other threats.
Friend, success is going to depend on grassroots pressure. To keep our campaigns going, we've set a $100,000 fundraising goal before the end of May, and a group of donors has agreed to triple every contribution. We're asking:
Can you pitch in? You can triple your impact if you give today. This fight is developing quickly ? if we can't scale up ASAP, we're going to miss our window to make a difference. Donate today, even $5 helps ? [link removed]
