You'll join Poynter senior faculty Joie Chen ([link removed]) as she speaks with Dion Lim ([link removed]) , anchor and reporter at ABC7/KGO-TV in San Francisco, and Washington Post national political reporter Robert Samuels ([link removed]) .
The panel will discuss their experiences as journalists of color amid the social justice movements of the last year. All have reported on Black Lives Matter and Stop AAPI Hate and have seen the impacts of those movements on their own lives. Their experiences help them imagine how newsrooms will evolve to better support diversity, equity and inclusion in the future.

High School Journalism Program (June 2021)
Online group seminar, June 14-25
If you know a student who is interested in journalism, let them know about Poynter's prestigious training for teenagers: the High School Journalism Program.
Now online and available to students nationwide, this program will teach participants multimedia storytelling skills, fact-checking best practices and journalistic ethics for the future. Journalism experience isn't required to apply. The program can launch high schoolers into a communications program in college, set them up for an internship or help them apply to their student paper.
Students can expect personalized instruction from globally renowned Poynter faculty and award-winning media professionals delivered in a high-production online learning environment. By the end of the intensive, 10-day online program, students will have produced a multimedia story of their choosing and written a personal essay.

Reporting in the Age of Social Justice

In this four-day digital workshop, journalists will gain skills to help them tell stories that matter to audiences and that leave a distinct mark on society.
John D. Sutter — CNN contributor, MIT fellow and National Geographic explorer — returns as Poynter guest faculty to lead this workshop, bringing in prominent guest speakers who will share their field-tested tips for covering the accelerating social change in 2021. Confirmed instructors include Juan Arredondo, a photojournalist whose images explore social inequality and frequently appear in The New York Times; Robert Samuels, a national political reporter at The Washington Post, who focuses on the intersection of politics, policy and people; and Jan Winburn, award-winning journalist and writing mentor. Workshop participants will not only learn from experienced reporters during daily sessions, but also have the opportunity to receive one-on-one, personalized coaching from them.
