Find a John Lewis Voting Rights Day of Action event near you.

Dear MoveOn member,

In states across the country, Republicans are escalating their attacks on our voting rights, with over 300 bills introduced in statehouses this year making it harder to cast a ballot. Already people, predominantly Black people and people of color, face huge intentional hurdles to voting, from long lines to limited access to early voting and mail-in ballots. Now the GOP is lashing out to rig the rules in their favor even more.

This is why on Saturday, May 8, across the country, people are getting in their cars or joining online to participate in the John Lewis Voting Rights Day of Action. Click here to find an event near you.

Representative John Lewis was a legend—and known for making "good trouble" while fighting for justice at every level. He was a pillar of the civil rights movement, speaking at the March on Washington in 1963 and as a leader of the voting rights march that was beaten on "Bloody Sunday" in 1965 for trying to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, AL.

There is a once-in-a-generation chance to fundamentally change voting rights and our democracy. With Democrats in control of the House, Senate, and presidency, there is a very small window available to pass transformative bills, including the For the People Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, and statehood for Washington, D.C. These bills would prevent Republicans from rigging the rules in their favor and give power to the people, getting us closer to the vision of one person, one vote.

We must act now. If the Senate doesn't vote on the For the People Act soon, it will be too late for the law to take effect for the 2022 elections. Please join a socially distant "votercade" action in a car on Saturday, May 8, or join virtually to demand the Senate act on voting rights.

Votercade events will have lines of cars drive through popular locations to promote the expansion of voting rights. Together, with over 135 events taking place across the country, we'll make enough noise to ensure Senator Schumer and all Democrats hear us and feel the pressure to act quickly.

Thanks for all you do.
