Hi —
This is urgent. The Pennsylvania House has resurrected a dangerous package of bills that will make it easier for big corporations to pollute our air, water, and public lands.
Instead of letting the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) do their jobs, these bills would undercut their ability to develop and implement much-needed environmental safeguards and hold polluters accountable. Instead, power will be doled to a handful of legislators who are in the pockets of big corporations, and we’ll see dirtier air and more pollution in the waterways our families use for fishing, swimming, and clean drinking water.
A final vote in the House will happen at any moment this week, and we know that Big Gas and Oil are going to have their lobbyists in every legislative office. We need to raise our voices to counter them.
Tell your state representative to stop this senseless attack right now and put health before industry profits >>
Without oversight, we could see even more pipeline spills and leaks and worsening air quality. The General Assembly already has the authority to review and act on the measures that the DEP and DCNR put in place to protect our clean air, water, and public lands from pollution. These bills will not create a more efficient and effective government, as some legislators claim, but will only add layers of unnecessary bureaucracy that will block the state from protecting our families. And in Black and Brown communities, where there are already higher levels of water and air pollution, the health consequences will be even worse with less oversight.
It’s clear that this move is a power grab by a handful of politicians and lobbyists who want to get to pick and choose the rules to benefit industry that lines their pockets with campaign contributions. We stopped these bills last session and we can do it again — but we need to act now before it’s too late.
Urge your lawmaker to vote NO on this dangerous package of bills that puts the systems that protect us and our environment at risk.
Thanks for being in our corner.
