PFLAG Connects

Dear John:

We hope you saw our announcement about #PFLAGParentDay - a virtual celebration of parenting people who are supporting LGBTQ+ folks. Now, you can play a part in the celebration!

Do you have a significant parent/parenting person who’s made an impact on your life? Submit a short, 20-30 second video expressing your gratitude and it could be included in our festivities and promo leading up to the event. Review these tips to help you set up your video for success and, when you’re ready, upload your video here. (Be sure to include your pronouns with your name and an email address you check regularly.)

We can't wait to celebrate #PFLAGParentDay with you!

The words,

Support

ICYMI: A Place to Call Home

On May 1st, in honor of our AAPI families, we premiered a new film, A Place to Call Home. Filmmaker Stephanie Tran (they/them), a young, queer, Vietnamese filmmaker, approached PFLAG National last year hoping to amplify and honor LGBTQ+ Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander voices. Then COVID hit, and the way films were being made had to change, quickly--putting the project on pause. We are so glad that, one year later, Stephanie is finally able to bring their vision to life. We are #PFLAGProud to elevate our beloved AAPI families--and Stephanie's work--in honor of AAPI Heritage Month.

Education

Three Steps to Being a Better Advocate for AAPI Heritage Month (While You’re Stuck at Home)

Just because you’re staying in doesn’t mean your learning should slow down! So, stay safe and take these steps to engage:

  1. Learn: Take the time to learn about the stories and accomplishments of Asian American and Pacific Islander LGBTQ+ heroes and pioneers – all year long. Desi Rainbow Parents and Allies is a great place to get started!
  2. Watch: Check out the video libraries like Proud Possibilities and Faith & Families from Desi Rainbow Parents and Allies. The Family is Still Family, Love is Still Love PSA series created by NQAPIA offers videos in Mandarin, Cantonese, Lao, Hindi, Korean, Tagalog, Japanese, and Vietnamese.
  3. Share: Use social media to elevate the voices of AAPI PFLAG families by sharing A Place to Call Home, our new film (see Support, above, for more information).

All that I want for Mother's Day is equality for my LGBTQ+ child

Advocacy

Tell the Senate: All we want for Mother's Day is Equality for our kids!

This week, we’re celebrating the moms, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and mothering people in our lives — and the work they do for us every single day. But Mother’s Day serves as a reminder: Our work to protect LGBTQ+ children isn’t finished yet.

As we speak, LGBTQ+ kids in nearly 30 states across the country lack the protections they deserve to live a life free of discrimination. That’s why we’re letting Congress know: It’s time to pass the Equality Act now.  JOIN OUR FIGHT: SIGN THE LETTER TODAY AND TELL CONGRESS THAT MOMS SUPPORT THE EQUALITY ACT

Moms know better than anyone that LGBTQ+ children are children — and they deserve the same care, dignity, and protections as every other kid. Lawmakers have the power to fight for our kids, and PFLAG moms across the country are ready to get the job done.

Read our letter to Congress and add your name today to help win real protections for our children. Let’s pass the Equality Act now.
