Right now, state leaders across the East Coast are making final decisions on how to design the regional Transportation and Climate Initiative Program (TCI-P) — a program that will cap transportation emissions and invest in clean transportation options for years to come. 

Low income communities and communities of color are more likely to breathe in toxic pollution from our transportation system and lack access to affordable, reliable transportation options. TCI-P could potentially invest $300 million per year in the first participating states alone. These investments could help reduce pollution and increase access to clean transit options, like expanded public transit, electric school buses, and safe biking lanes. But more steps are needed to ensure that this investment reaches first the communities that need it most. 

State agency officials need to hear from you -- tell them to center equity in the upcoming regional transportation program!

As state agency officials and Governors move forward with implementing the program, we need them to explicitly commit to prioritizing localized pollution reduction in neighborhoods with the dirtiest air, protecting workers, and ensuring that disproportionately impacted communities have a seat at the table in shaping investment decisions.
