Dear John,
When the history-making Biden-Harris Administration was elected, the Ms. Foundation for Women felt relief and hope that this Administration could make great strides in promoting gender justice, protecting women and creating economic opportunity for all. So, what’s happened in the first 100 days?
- Establishment of the White House Gender Policy Council which will play an essential role in advancing equity in government policy for those who face discrimination and bias;
- Executive Order on preventing and combating discrimination on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation;
Make no mistake – the “wins” and momentum we’re seeing in policy are a direct result of the collective power of movements and work of grassroots leaders like our grantee-partners at SisterSong advancing reproductive justice, Black Trans Media fighting transphobia, and many more.
We’re headed in the right direction and know there’s so much more to be done. We need more investment in women of color, more solutions to address Black maternal health, more protection for trans women and children, and more paid leave and higher wages so women don’t have to choose between their jobs or caring for a loved one or themselves.
Let’s commit to continuing to be bold and look to our grassroots movements and women leaders for what we can achieve to continue moving forward on the issues that matter most - equal pay, sexual harassment/violence, bodily autonomy, and child care to make a tangible difference in the everyday lives of women, their families and communities. Now is the time to unapologetically move to a safe and just future for all.
Onward!
