Dear John,

At the beginning of the year, we reported that if the country continues at this recent pace of decarceration, it will take 60 years to cut the prison population in half. We cannot wait that long to end mass incarceration and the gross racial and ethnic injustices that pervade the entire system. That’s why we are committed to building our capacity and tripling our impact over the next five years. I’m excited to introduce you to our new staff members who will help us meet this goal:

Alexandra Bailey
Strategist for the Campaign to End Life Imprisonment

Alexandra will build upon her campaign experience while at the ACLU to support state and local advocates working to challenge the nation’s life sentencing laws. Her priorities include supporting efforts to end life without parole, capping maximum penalties at 20 years, promoting “second look” provisions, and fostering a culture that rejects excessive punishments in favor of restorative approaches to public safety.

Keeda Haynes
State Campaigns Strategist

Keeda is an experienced criminal defense attorney and formerly incarcerated advocate. She will support state and local advocates advancing sentencing reforms and challenging collateral consequences, with a focus on state campaigns to restore voting rights to all justice-involved people.

Florence Lee
Development Associate

Florence is a data and operations specialist who will help strengthen and sustain The Sentencing Project at this time of organizational growth. Her work will focus around developing and enhancing The Sentencing Project's fundraising materials and strategies and maintaining its database of donors.
