Learn - Our speakers for the May 6th, general meeting are Christopher Chin, Executive Director of Center for Oceanic Awareness, and Delegate Ibraheem Simarah, Delegate from 86 VA House of Delegates. Christopher Chin is an internationally recognized expert in ocean policy and conservation issues, and has provided valuable and persuasive testimony to various governing and legislative bodies in the U.S. and Canada, and has addressed the General Assembly on the U.N. with regard to a number of issues concerning the health of the oceans. He is considered one of North America’s foremost experts in single use plastic legislation.
Delegate Simarah, a dentist, is the the youngest elected legislator in VA and a strong proponent of the VA Green New Deal. He will be talking about the environmental bills of the 2020 session.
Discuss - What legislation addressing environmental issues we would like to see in the 2021 session, how best to advocate for progressive environmental legislation and Q & A's arising from each speaker's brief presentation.
Action - Write or call your congressperson and Senator Warner and Senator Kaine and ask them to support the Break Free From Plastic Bill. We should be talking with all our delegates. Contact your representatives .
