354 votes – That’s all that kept Jana Lynne Sanchez out of the runoff in TX-06.

Our democracy is in jeopardy. The January 6th insurrection made that clear. The stakes couldn’t be higher. That’s why we didn’t wait for the party, polls, or pundits to tell us that competing in TX-06 was worth it, we jumped in head first. When our democracy is on the line every election and every vote is worth fighting for, and the fact that we only lost by 354 votes proves that we were right to fight.

We were the only national group to support Sanchez on Saturday. If any other group had gotten involved this would have been a victory email. But while everybody else stayed on the sidelines friend, you chose to get involved and support our efforts to flip the first insurrectionist district. You didn’t listen to the conventional wisdom either, because there was work to do. Your support is what made this race competitive in the first place.

When you lose by a margin as small as 354 votes, there’s a million questions to be answered about every little thing you could have done better. And you better believe that we’ll be taking a hard look in the mirror in the coming days and weeks, but one thing is clear: We’ve only been at this for 3 short months – next time it’s going to take a lot more than 354 votes to beat us.

Because of your support, we made significant progress in a deep-red district. For most of the race, Sanchez was polling with the highest approval rating – there were GOP voters who, fed up with the lies and the disunity, preferred Sanchez and cast votes for Sanchez. We were the only Democratic group working in TX-06, against 6-figure investments from far-right groups of billionaires, and that’s progress we can be proud of. We won over GOP voters because of you, and those voters will affect the district’s outcomes in 2022 and beyond.

Among The 147, there are many who won with even smaller margins in 2020 than in TX-06. Those will be our top targets in 2022. Those will be the races that determine the Congressional majorities. Those are the fights we will need you with us for.

Beating The 147 was never going to be easy. It’s going to be a sustained, long term effort combatting their lies and hate. There will be disappointing losses and exhilarating victories in 2022 and beyond. But we’ve learned here that every seat is worth fighting for, every vote won is worth celebrating. We’re going to continue to keep you updated on everything you need to know about The 147 and our efforts to see them out. We’re in it for the long haul, and we hope you are too.
