October 1st. The day student loan payments resume.
Forbes reports, "If millions of borrowers fail to start making their
payments again on October 1, it could lead to a cascade of delinquencies
and defaults." We have a deadline and it’s coming fast.
That’s why PCCC is working hard alongside Senator Elizabeth Warren, who is
leading the fight from Congress, to urge President Biden to act now on
student debt cancellation.
[ [link removed] ]Sign the petition: I support canceling $50,000 of debt per borrower and
completely relieving tens of millions of Americans from the burden of
student loans. (If you have student debt, you can also share the impact
this would have on you personally. We’ll deliver petition signatures and
your stories to the White House. You can also call the White House
directly after you sign.)
Thousands have already signed on and many have shared their stories of why
they need relief now:
Akil A. in Louisiana: "It would help me increase my income. I am an
amputee with a lot of medical bills. I would be able to pay my bills."
Kisha L. in Pennsylvania: "I would like to be able to buy my Mom and I a
house."
Desiree M. in Florida: "My debt is higher than the $50,000 but any help
is very appreciated. I would be able to purchase storm windows for our
old home to protect us from hurricanes."
Unfortunately, these stories are very American. In what we call the
greatest nation on the planet, Americans shouldn’t be saddled with
hundreds of thousands of dollars of student debt, preventing them from
buying their first house, starting their first savings account, or helping
their kids go to college.
