Friend

Last May Day we launched our #ImmigrantsAreEssential narrative and culture change project in collaboration with our partners at Resilience Force and talented artists across the country. We launched this initiative to amplify the stories of immigrants — and ultimately to remind us all that immigrants are essential to our nation, and that we should pay, protect, and honor all immigrants.

This project has helped shift the political conversation on immigration and continues to engage and create impactful dialogue while also putting pressure on Congress to include and empower our communities through meaningful legislation.

As the Biden administration looks ahead to its next 100 days in office, it’s important that we keep pushing for the protections and support our communities need. Friend, if we keep up the momentum, Congress will feel the pressure to finally create a pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants.

We will continue to call on Congress to pay, protect, and honor people like Velia, who’s from Nicaragua. Velia is undocumented, the mother of two, and has been caring for older adults at a retirement home throughout the pandemic. [Artist: Terrick Gutierrez]

And Emilio, who’s from Argentina and who has been delivering groceries on Instacart to make ends meet — risking his own life during the pandemic while others remain safely in their homes. [Artist: Britt Sheppard]

And Dr. Abudu, who came to the U.S. from Ghana and has been saving lives during the pandemic as an emergency room physician. Dr. Abudu has shared his heartbreaking story about losing his colleagues in the ER to COVID. [Artist: Beth Consetta Rubel]

Immigrants are essential. Their work is critical. Their humanity, courage, and resilience is inspiring. Their place in this country is vital but we have a small legislative window to ensure that Congress recognizes immigrants as essential and belong in this country they call home. Frienduse your voice to empower our communities this May Day and push Congress to pass a bill that provides a pathway to citizenship

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Gracias,
