Friend,
Laying transmission lines for a new clean electricity grid, retrofitting buildings to be more energy-efficient, cleaning up abandoned oil and gas wells, and replacing lead service lines to protect our children's drinking water—each of these is an opportunity to create new jobs.
But simply creating new jobs isn't good enough. The jobs must be economically just, with a living wage, safe working conditions, family supporting benefits, and the protections that only a union can provide.
President Biden was right to uphold the importance of unions and workplace democracy in the American Jobs Plan, and we're going to hold him and Congress to it.
Today, in commemoration of International Workers' Day, please sign our petition to call for a clean energy economy where any worker can join a union.
Right now, too few jobs in clean energy industries are organized by a union. As clean energy becomes mainstream, providing the backbone for our national economy, these jobs must be every bit as good as utility industry jobs are today at building a strong middle class. To do that, Congress must pass the American Jobs Plan for infrastructure investment, together with the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, which made it through the House in March.
The Evergreen Action Plan and our Roadmap to 100% Clean Electricity call for high standards, strong public investment, and an abiding commitment to economic and social justice. Today, Congress can pass a bold clean energy investment package, backed by strong labor standards to build a better economy for workers and the environment.
Investing in clean energy and sustainable infrastructure, and updating our nation's labor laws, will ensure we are building a just and thriving clean energy economy. We can put millions of Americans to work in good union jobs defeating the climate crisis. Let's get to work!
Take action today: Add your name to call for passing the PRO Act and new labor standards to grow union jobs and build a just, sustainable, and inclusive clean energy economy.
Thanks,
