OCA: AAPI Untold Histories
[link removed]
We are proud to present our Untold Histories toolkit to celebrate APAHM 2021! Our Spring Communications Intern Mahina Martinson researched and listed a variety of Asian American and Pacific Islander figures that have contributed greatly to United States history. We know the stories and achievements of our communities often go untold, and the goal of this month-long social media feature aims to change this.

In the toolkit, we've listed short biographies of these figures' life work, resources to learn more, and graphics to accompany social media posts. The link for the toolkit is bit.ly/apahmhistories2021. Feel free to post from the toolkit and share widely for others to use!

OCA-UPS Gold Mountain Scholarships
[link removed]
Since 1999, UPS has generously funded the OCA - UPS® Gold Mountain Scholarship. The title of this scholarship program calls back to a time when many Asian immigrants looked upon America as a mountain of golden opportunities for themselves and their families. Awardees of the scholarship seek dreams of higher education, which are not only the dreams of the students but also of their parents and extended family. For more information on the scholarships: www.ocanational.org/scholarships.

Updates from the Policy Team from April:
* Senate Passes COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act
+ This legislation will move this country closer to addressing hate and providing much-needed support for individuals and communities impacted by hate and discrimination.
* Town Hall on Anti-Asian Hate
+ OCA National held two Town Halls where we shared training opportunities and resources, had chapters present on the work they are doing to respond to the rise in anti-Asian violence in their communities, and listened to experts speak on mental health, strategies for self-care, and standing in solidarity against anti-Asian hate.
* Rapid Response Trainings
+ This critical training covers the importance of a community response to hate crimes, the different between hate crimes/incidents, available resources, victim support, communications and how to effectively leverage the media, community building, and sample case studies from OCA Chapters. This training was conducted for OCA Chapter leaders and the AAPI team within AARP's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office.

IRS Tax Tips
[link removed]

The deadline to file and pay federal taxes was moved to May 17. Taxpayers should file on time, even they owe taxes. Extensions are available for more time to file but not to pay. Owe taxes but can't pay in full by the 5/17/21 deadline? File your tax return any way or request an extension of time to file before the deadline. An extension gives you until 10/15/21 to file your return, but taxes owed are still due 5/17/21. For more information: [link removed]
