Friend,

Today is International Workers’ Day – an opportunity to extend our gratitude to those working day in and day out to serve Massachusetts communities, particularly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We must back up these expressions of thanks with action on behalf of workers’ rights. That’s what my office strives to do every day.

We have a simple goal – to make sure that every worker is paid what they are owed. Unfortunately, all too often, employers are stealing from their workers to the tune of billions of dollars each year. This is hard earned money that families need to pay rent, put food on the table, and afford education and health care.

My office has made fighting wage theft and protecting workers top priorities, and this has only increased in importance during the pandemic. We fight worker exploitation in every form. Just last year, we assessed more than $12.3 million dollars in restitution and penalties against employers for violating labor laws.

But we need more tools in our toolkit to fight back against wage theft. That’s why I’m advocating with my partners in labor for the passage of a strong wage theft law in Massachusetts that will make it easier to hold contractors and subcontractors accountable and make sure they pay their workers.

If you stand with working people and believe they deserve to be paid what they are owed for their hard work, will you sign our petition calling for a stronger wage theft law in Massachusetts? This legislation is essential for ensuring workers aren’t cheated out of the wages, overtime, and sick time that they deserve.
