Dear John,
Today marks the start of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a month dedicated to highlighting the culture, realities, histories and leadership of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
The American Federation of Government Employees is proud to be a home to a vast and diverse membership, which includes a notable percentage of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). With the rise of Asian-hate in our nation and a historically underwhelming attempt to uplift AAPI communities, the Women’s and Fair Practices Departments are proud to host our first Asian American and Pacific Islander Panel on May 11 from 7 – 9 PM EST via Zoom and Facebook Live.
This panel will provide viewers with the history and timeline of the Asian American and Pacific Islander populations in the United States, as well as highlight the lived experiences of some of our AAPI leaders in AFGE.
All members are encouraged to watch and learn about the lived experiences of some of our AAPI members.
You can view this event via Zoom by registering here or by watching on Facebook Live.
We look forward to seeing you online on May 11. If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to our departments’ Program Specialist Denver Supinger at [email protected]
In Solidarity,
Jeremy A. Lannan
NVP for Women and Fair Practices
