Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Contact Me My Thoughts on the Joint Address & President Biden's First 100 Days WATCH: Tenney Responds to Biden's Speech President Joe Biden delivered his first Joint Address to Congress this Wednesday. In his address, the President unveiled another massive spending proposal that would be paid for by increasing taxes on American families. President Biden promised unity, but in his first 100 days, he’s surrendered to the partisan far-left agenda that is causing irreparable damage to citizens across the nation. The spending plan President Biden unveiled during his address sacrifices freedom and embraces socialism. The disastrous plan is a $1.8 trillion partisan grab-bag of liberal priorities that would bring his total spending proposed in the first 100 days to a record $6.6 trillion. That’s many times more than we spent during the Great Depression and the Great Recession combined when adjusted for inflation. To pay for this spending spree, President Biden is proposing tax hikes that will hurt employers across all sectors, including middle class families and farmers. These massive tax increases will have adverse consequences for all Americans. President Biden’s radical tax and spend policies will hurt our nation’s recovery, especially as we struggle to emerge stronger from this pandemic. Saddling Americans with unsustainable debt will erode our economic freedoms. President Biden also provided no solutions to the human trafficking catastrophe on our Southern Border, which he caused by rolling back commonsense border policies that were working. The approach the President outlined will not help the current crisis, safeguard our communities or save the lives of thousands of young people who are being exploited every day by brutal cartels. We must complete the wall, deploy 21st century technology, and give our law enforcement officers the resources and flexibility they need to ensure security to all affected at the border. President Biden also failed to rebuke the dangerous calls from members of Congress to defund the police. Instead, he asked the Democrat-controlled Congress to adopt yet another partisan bill that ends qualified immunity for law enforcement officers. This initiative only enriches the profiteering trial lawyers and threatens to make our communities even less safe. President Biden must prioritize unity and bipartisanship in order to gain the trust of the American people and support from elected leaders on both sides of the aisle. Empty rhetoric and overused political slogans don’t translate into the credible policy solutions we desperately need now. Cosponsor Update: Lowering Prescription Drug Costs I recently cosponsored H.R. 19, the Lower Costs, More Cures Act in Congress. This bill would bring generic medications to the market faster, lower the cost of insulin for those living with diabetes, reduce out-of-pocket costs for senior citizens, and increase access to new medications and cures for all Americans. My priorities are to reduce the cost of healthcare and promote medical innovation, while increasing access and quality. That’s why I’ll continue supporting legislation that lowers prescription drug costs and increases support for discovering cures for rare and chronic illnesses. Supreme Court Hears Second Amendment Case CNBC: Supreme Court takes up major case over right to carry guns outside the home Law-abiding gun owners in New York have watched for years as their Second Amendment rights have been slowly eroded. It’s great news for our country that the Supreme Court is taking this important case up. From leading the charge against the unconstitutional SAFE Act in the New York State Assembly to continuing the fight for our constitutional freedoms in Congress, I’ll always defend our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Supporting Civil Air Patrol's Growing Mission READ: Tenney and Thompson Lead Bipartisan Letter Requesting Funding Increase to Support Civil Air Patrol's Growing Mission The Civil Air Patrol has played a crucial part in our national security for nearly eight decades, and Congress should continue supporting their ever-growing mission. As our national security demands increase, the Civil Air Patrol continues stepping up to fill gaps and meet our military needs. I’m honored to lead the bipartisan push in Congress to increase funding for their important work so they have the right tools to get the job done. So pleased that 88 of my colleagues joined me in sending a bipartisan letter to the Appropriations Committee requesting continued support for their important work. Weekly Cosponsor Update I am pleased to share several bills that I cosponsored in Congress this week. I am focused on representing you in Washington and will continue to support commonsense legislation that delivers results for New York families, small businesses, and seniors. This is what I cosponsored this week: H.R. 288 - Qualified Immunity Act of 2021 - This bill codifies the defense of qualified immunity for law enforcement officers in any case under provisions regarding civil actions for deprivation of rights under color of law. H.R. 489 - Protecting Rural Access to Care Act - This bill limits the scope of guidance issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding the secondary road criteria for Medicare critical access hospitals. H. R. 543 - POWER Act - This legislation would blocks a President's ability to ban new energy leases on federal lands without the approval of Congress. The law is pretty clear. U.S. Code § 1519 states: Whoever knowingly alters, destroys, mutilates, conceals, covers up, falsifies, or makes a false entry in any record, document, or tangible object with the intent to impede, obstruct, or influence the investigation or proper administration of any matter within the jurisdiction of any department or agency of the United States or any case filed under title 11, or in relation to or contemplation of any such matter or case, shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both. The actions of Governor Cuomo and his aides may have violated this very section of U.S. law. I continue to call for the Governor’s resignation for his negligent nursing home policies, and for the criminal cover-up that followed. New Yorkers deserve far better than Andrew Cuomo’s failed leadership Have news or updates to share? Email me!
