We emailed you yesterday about a new program launch -- that’s right, our 2020 Congressional Endorsements Program is officially live!

We’ve got a lot of fights ahead of us: the federal budget, passing people-first immigration legislation, the Green New Deal, you name it. These issues aren’t going away, and they won’t be fixed just by electing the right president next year. We need the right people in Congress who will take their jobs seriously, advance strong progressive policies, and truly feel accountable to their constituents. (And, sidenote, we need to eliminate the filibuster!)

That’s why we’re so excited to begin the process of identifying and supporting amazing congressional candidates nationwide. But it’s going to take a whole lot of work and a whole lot of resources to make it happen. Here’s just a sample of some of our budget line items for this program over the next several months:

• We’re going to launch massive voter contact campaigns through the mail for some of our key endorsed candidates -- $300,000

• We’ll produce flyers and other literature for canvassers to use when knocking on doors -- $50,000

• We’ll engage directly with media outlets, scheduling tours and press events, and supporting groups doing the work to get candidates the coverage they need. And we’ll place paid buys for things like digital, radio, and print ads -- $400,000

• We’ll be making direct contributions to endorsed candidates to support their campaigns -- $100,000

• That’s not to mention the staff time, organizing capacity, office supplies, and all the other expenses that will come up throughout this year -- all in all, we’re budgeting almost a million dollars on this.

We’re pouring our hearts and souls into our Congressional Endorsements Program, because we know how important it is to support the candidates who will do the work to advance progressive policies. In 2018, Indivisible endorsements helped candidates flip the House in key swing districts, defeat entrenched incumbents in Democratic primaries, and deepen the Democratic bench in crucial 2020 states. But grassroots donations are our biggest single source of funding, so like all of our work, we literally can’t do this without you.

You might be asking, “Why can’t I just support candidates directly by donating to their campaigns?”

The answer to that is: you can, and you should.

But you should also give to support our endorsements program, because when you give to Indivisible, you're investing in a national movement that's more than the sum of its parts. You’re supporting a slate of progressive candidates across the country, along with the tools and organizing it’ll take to get them elected. And you’re supporting a movement that will keep them honest once they’re in office. Whether we’re launching a round of endorsements or bird-dogging candidates to get them on the record about important issues, you can be sure that every dollar you give will go toward building the 2020 Blue Wave.
