Hello there,

NBC News: “The Supreme Court said … it will consider how much protection the Second Amendment provides for carrying a gun outside the home.”

This is the first time in more than a decade that the Supreme Court has agreed to take up a case concerning gun rights, tellingly -- and it's just the start.

Republicans now have a 6-3 conservative majority in the highest court in the country -- with Trump's loyalists Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett tipping the scales in major decisions. That's why they feel confident in taking up this NRA-backed case.

Democrats have been vocal about the need to restore the balance. There's nothing in the Constitution that requires nine judges be on the court, and as POLITICO points out, “the number of seats on the high court has fluctuated in American history, from as few as five to as many as 10.”

Republicans, and even some Democrats, have spoken out against expanding the Supreme Court. But progressives know there's too much at stake to allow a Trump-backed majority to make key decisions for decades to come. Before we take any action, we need to know where engaged Democrats like you stand on the issue:
Do you support expanding the Supreme Court?
