In just a minute, I will ask you to add a contribution to my re-election campaign before our critical end-of-month deadline expires at midnight. But first, I’d like to explain why your support is so important — especially now.

You might be surprised to hear this, but a large portion of our budget comes from grassroots contributions to emails just like this one. I’m the only Democratic Senator up for re-election that’s refusing to accept a single cent of corporate PAC and federal lobbyist money.

From day one, I wanted this team to be fueled by hard-working folks chipping in what they could for a movement we all believe in. I never want there to be a question of who I work for — that answer will always be you.

Look, this isn’t the easy path. And it makes us especially vulnerable to outside attacks now that Washington Republicans and their mega-donors are gearing up to retake the Senate.

But I’ve seen the power of this grassroots team. I know if we dig deep and work together, we can overcome anything thrown our way. But I have to admit, I’m a little worried we’ll miss our April fundraising goal tonight.

That’s why I’m personally asking you to add a contribution of any amount that’s meaningful to you to help us reach our goal, protect this seat, and defend the Democratic Senate majority. I appreciate you.
