Tell Congress to support a resolution that would make May 7, 2021 a National Day of Reason

Dear Friend,
This past week, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) ([link removed]) introduced a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives that would designate May 7, 2021 as a National Day of Reason, in celebration of critical thought, scientific integrity, and free inquiry.
At a time when religious dogma and privilege are becoming more commonplace, and often find their way into public policy to the detriment of the public health, it is critical that we reestablish our secular founding and reaffirm the value of science. Science and reason are the tools that has uplifted mankind throughout history, and will be the tools necessary to bring about a more just and prosperous world for all.
Tell Congress to Support a National Day of Reason ([link removed])
This resolution (H.Res.357 ([link removed]) ) makes clear the practical implications of straying from evidence-based policy by reminding us that "irrationality, magical and conspiratorial thinking, and disbelief in science have undermined the national effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to the deaths of more than 555,000 people in the United States.”
Belief in reason and science, which includes nationwide confidence in the “safety and efficacy of vaccines and evidence-based solutions to the inequities exacerbated by the pandemic” can be the difference between struggling to save the lives of thousands or successfully saving the lives of millions.
Alongside designating May 7 as a Day of Reason and calling for reason-based approaches to combating the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and other societal problems, the resolution reminds us that America’s Founders “insisted upon the primacy of reason and knowledge in public life, and drafted the Constitution to prevent official establishment of religion and to protect freedom of thought, speech, and inquiry in civil society.”
The National Day of Reason will anchor theSecular Week of Action ([link removed]) (April 30 to May 9), which focuses on creating and conducting compassionate responses to hunger and homelessness. You can learn more about the Secular Week of Action here. ([link removed])
Please take a minute to contact your representative in the House today to encourage them to co-sponsor this important resolution. ([link removed] take two minutes to contact your representative in the House today to encourage them to co-sponsor this important resolution.)
