We CAN end gun violence in this country.

March For Our Lives

Hey John,

The Biden-Harris administration presented an ambitious agenda at Wednesday night's joint address to Congress.  We acknowledge, and appreciate, their stances on closing the boyfriend loophole to keep deadly weapons out of the hands of violent abusers, taking on the NRA, shoring up background checks, and banning ghost guns, assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

But March For Our Lives has always been a gun violence prevention organization, because we believe to really tackle and end America's gun violence crisis, we must go at the root causes fueling it, like poverty, the national mental health crisis, political apathy & corruption, armed supremacy, and gun glorification.

Loving and thriving communities do not turn to guns. That's why we convened at the Capitol yesterday with the #TimeIsNow coalition to deliver our State of the Union on Gun Violence, speaking directly to our President, our VP, and Members of Congress about what needs to be done.

Daud Mumin delivers his opening speech for the State of the Union on Gun Violence

The harrowing pervasiveness of gun violence leaves no neighborhood, zip code, or community untouched. In America, we prioritize firearm access over access to services for human needs. For too many Americans, guns are easier to obtain than housing, medical care, education or even food.

For me -- and for the three million American children who will witness gun violence in some form during their childhoods; who will duck for cover and search for the nearest exit with every loud bang; who will wonder if they will become the latest casualty of America's public health crisis -- please, contact your senators.

We demand that our elected officials live up to their campaign promises, support and invest in the Americans closest to the trauma and pain of gun violence, and pass life-saving legislation this year to help build safe and just communities for us all.

Join me in showing the relentless commitment of young people and families impacted by this crisis. We are not going away until they stop the bloodshed.

Electing leaders we believe in is the first step, holding them accountable is the next. Our senators have no reason to act unless we give them one.

Appreciate you all, and keep up the fight.
