AFSCME Family,
If you’re like me, you already know what an important difference being a union member can make. But the good news is that everyone seems to be catching on: Public support for unions is higher than it’s been in years. Why? Because people recognize that the big corporations, billionaires and anti-union operatives aren’t looking out for working people: they’re looking out for themselves.
Union members like us have better wages, better health care benefits and more secure retirements.
Life is better in a union. That’s why unions are so critical to building a strong middle class.
Sure, it’s about better pay and benefits, but it’s also about so much more: respect for the work we do; safe conditions on the job (especially during a pandemic); having the resources to provide the best possible services; and having somewhere to turn to when something goes wrong at work.
You can learn more about why life is better in a union and hear from AFSCME members about the difference it has made in our lives.
Check out the Union Difference webpage and be sure to share it with your friends!
Standing together is important. Having each other’s backs is important. And negotiating for a better life for ourselves and our families is important. Being a union member is a difference-maker for our families and our communities.
In solidarity,
Ketha Otis
