We reached out earlier with the major news that Biden had committed the U.S. to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half — nearly double what we originally committed to under the Paris agreement.

We're now facing down a once-in-a-generation chance to seriously tackle climate change. The problem is that we're still up against a Senate with a razor-thin margin. Any victory is going to require serious pressure campaigns and grassroots organizing.

Friend — what happens now will depend on LCV supporters like you.

That means grassroots campaigning, volunteer organizing, and major pressure campaigns targeting lawmakers in swing states. We live and breathe this stuff at LCV. We're asking you to be a part of it, friend.

We set a goal of raising $20,000 before the end of the month. That deadline is tonight at midnight, and we're still $4,131 short. Please — donate today »

Biden's goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions requires that we enact a number of major policy priorities right away. Each policy will fail without support of the environmental movement right now. Two examples:

The American Jobs bill. President Biden has called for huge investments to modernize our energy, transportation, and water infrastructure, as well as create millions of green jobs and combat environmental racism.

The 30-by-30 plan — a plan to conserve 30 percent of U.S. lands and waters by 2030, which will allow us to conserve forests and other natural areas that safely store carbon in the ground. With Deb Haaland leading the Interior Department, the roadmap is coming together for how we get there. We're talking about doubling the amount of protected lands — working with local communities to expand and create new national and state parks and other protected landscapes, and significantly expanding the ocean areas off-limits to drilling and other threats.

The truth is, either of these fights could be considered the most consequential environmental initiative in decades. And they're both dead in the water without the backing of the environmental movement.

LCV has unique strengths that are going to be critical right now. Relationships with elected officials. Lobbying and media expertise. A network of 30+ state affiliates. Grassroots organizing programs. Fifty years of experience going toe to toe with Big Oil and winning.

With your help, we can win this too. Donate today, and you'll help:
  • Run targeted campaigns to secure the votes of key lawmakers, including vulnerable allies and swing votes, and mobilize congressional champions to deliver the ambitious clean energy, justice and high-quality jobs the climate crisis demands and our communities need.
  • Deepen and expand partnerships with labor, environmental justice, racial justice, youth, and climate allies to overcome fossil-fuel opposition and maintain the coalition necessary to win.
  • Drive home the narrative that clean energy and climate solutions are central to economic recovery through research, messaging, and earned and paid media.
  • Use state-level advocacy and organizing efforts to demonstrate local support, reinforce political viability, and ensure successful implementation of policies.
  • Support and, when necessary, pressure the Biden-Harris administration to advance strong regulatory actions to reduce climate and toxic pollution and speed the clean energy transition while undoing Trump-era rollbacks by creating political imperative and urgency, both nationally and in key states.
Bottom line — this is a moment that everyone in the environmental movement needs to be heard, and I hope to hear from you.
