Automakers can make the right choice for our communities.? ? ? ? SEND A MESSAGE TO AUTOMAKERS:
Trump is trying to wipe out one of our best ways to fight climate change: Cleaner car standards. Now we need consumer demand from people like YOU to get cleaner cars on the road. Tell automakers to increase fuel efficiency and decrease emissions! ? SIGN NOW [link removed] ? ? ? ? ? In an attack on climate action AND states' rights, Trump blocked California's ability to demand higher fuel-efficiency standards. Automakers must fill the leadership gap and create clean cars on their own ? but they need to hear from consumers. Let the auto industry know that you want clean cars for our health and climate ? Friend, the transportation sector ? including the cars we drive ? is the biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions. Strong clean car standards is one of our best tools we have to fight the climate crisis.
But, last year Trump launched a major assault on our families by gutting Obama-era fuel-efficiency standards. And just last month, he attacked California's right to enforce stricter fuel-efficiency standards in the state. No administration has ever revoked a state's authority to protect its own air quality. This is a huge blow to communities who breathe dirty air ? especially communities of color and low-income communities that bear the brunt of air pollution.
The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is fighting back against this attack on our health and planet on all fronts ? including working with our allies in Congress to introduce legislation to stop Trump's rollback. But, what we really need help on is telling the automakers to fill Trump's leadership gap and create more fuel-efficient cars on their own.
Already four of the big car companies ? Ford, Honda, Volkwagen, and BMW ? have seen the consumer demand and have committed to make cleaner cars with California by their side. But it's not enough. If we really want to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, we need all new cars to be more fuel-efficient and more electric vehicles on the road. To do that, we have to use our collective power to pressure auto CEOs enough to stand up to Trump and to stand WITH customers and push the market toward less polluting cars. But that will only happen if they hear from you NOW.
URGENT: Our planet and at-risk communities can't take more polluting cars on the road. Contact auto CEOs now to demand cleaner cars ? [link removed]
The auto industry is already on track to meet the original fuel-efficiency goals from the Obama administration. And let's be clear: These cleaner cars mean big savings for families like yours and mine ? implementing these standards will save drivers more than $5,000 over a new car's lifetime! And with cleaner cars comes cleaner air ? helping the 25 million people in America who suffer from asthma ? particularly people of color who have disproportionately higher rates of asthma and live near busy roadways. We can't afford to not make the switch to cleaner cars.
Big car companies rely on consumers and a positive image to stay in business, so we know that that our activism can work. Because we spoke out so loudly when the Trump administration proposed to roll back clean car standards last year, auto-makers representing 30% of the U.S. car market broke with Trump to commit to hold themselves to higher standards ? but our work isn't done until all the big automakers have made the same commitment.
If we make enough noise now and demand that car companies stick up for clean cars and cleaner air, they'll have no choice but to take this step. And if we can win them over, we CAN push the U.S. auto market to send a strong rebuke to Trump and commit to making cleaner, safer cars available to all consumers. Will you join us and send a message to top U.S. automakers now?
As their consumers, tell automakers to stand up to Trump and commit to clean car standards before it's too late ? [link removed]
Friend, in the Trump era, we have to get creative with how we advance climate action and protect our air. We can still make progress, but only if LCV supporters like you rally together now. Will you join us?
