John,

Recently leaked footage of a National Rifle Association leader botching an elephant hunt is a sickening reminder that trophy hunters are still allowed to kill precious, gravely threatened species like elephants purely for entertainment.

The video shows the NRA's Wayne LaPierre firing an initial wounding shot. LaPierre then shoots the suffering animal three times in the wrong place, unable to make the kill.

Trophies from this brutal 2013 hunt came into the United States, highlighting how our federal policies support the colonialist practice of killing imperiled animals in other countries, then bringing their body parts back to display on our walls and floors.

Elephants shouldn't be slaughtered for sport. These animals desperately need our help. Savanna elephant populations plunged 50% over the past 75 years, according to international experts.

The Biden administration should halt trophy imports and focus on saving these magnificent creatures from extinction.

Sign our petition urging the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to ban elephant trophy imports.
