Friends,

As I look back on the past few months, and all we have accomplished, I feel so proud of what our community has been able to do together.

Because of your support over the last two years, I was able to go to Albany and fight for a budget that prioritizes rebuilding our city and state with much-needed support to our families, businesses, and communities across Southern Brooklyn.

This year's budget secured a historic commitment to our public education system, was the best budget for public higher education in a decade, invested $1 billion for small business relief, and addressed housing instability of both tenants and homeowners with rental assistance and a property tax credit.

But we’re not done yet. There is so much more to get done during the rest of our current legislative session.

Some (but not all!) of the what I’m focused on over the next few months include:

Continuing the progress we’ve made on street safety by passing the Crash Victims Rights & Safety Act
Increasing fines for loud mufflers and exhaust systems to curtail dangerous drag racers and finally crack down on noise pollution
Reforming our state’s ethics laws to hold government officials fully accountable for their bad actions and protecting employees who speak out from retaliation
Lowering the ratio of students to mental health counselors at CUNY and SUNY campuses from 1:2400 to 1:1000
Protecting the victims of workplace harassment from frivolous retaliatory defamation suits
Closing the loophole in state law that exempts legislative, judicial, and executive branch employees from the state’s sexual harassment laws
And of course, using my chairmanship of the Civil Service Committee to support public servants at every level of government
