The next 100 days are critical for queer asylum seekers.

Dear Friend,

Did you hear President Biden lay out his plan to lift Trump’s ban on refugees last night? Did you hear him explain how he was going to demilitarize the border or end the American-made refugee camps in Mexico? No? Neither did I.

If you listened to President Biden last night, you may have wanted to cheer because you liked what you heard about Dreamers, or about providing permanent protections for people who came to the U.S. during natural and man-made crises in their countries. He also wants to create a pathway to citizenship for farmworkers. So. Do. We.

However, while his commitment to these immigrants—and many of the actions he’s taken during his first 100 days—are commendable, he has utterly ignored some of the world’s most vulnerable people: asylum seekers and refugees. We need your help to ensure our community is not sidelined or forgotten.

Save lives by contributing $50 today. Help Immigration Equality do the frontline advocacy needed to protect asylum seekers and refugees. ([link removed])

We know what the most egregious policies are because they affect the people we serve—queer asylum seekers. Last night, President Biden failed to address:
* Article 42, a policy being abused by border patrol to expel 240,000 immigrants since Biden took office to dangerous conditions. People not allowed to see a lawyer. People not allowed to see a judge.

* A backlog of hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers waiting years in the U.S. to have their day in court, and thousands more forced to wait in Mexico.

* The more than 10,000 immigrants in detention facilities who are still locked up for no reason during a deadly pandemic.

Contribute $50 today so that these heinous rights violations aren’t swept under the rug ([link removed]) . ([link removed])

We will continue to win asylum for queer and HIV-positive people while forcing reform on the larger problems facing our community.

Thank you,

Aaron C. Morris, Executive Director
