This week, the Supreme Court announced that it will hear a major gun control case for the first time in nearly a decade. All the energy Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and the Republican Party spent to pack the court with their nominees is about to pay off.

This case, backed by the NRA, could mean even more guns on our streets. With the constant cycle of mass shootings in this country, it's hard to fathom the consequences this could have on the safety of all Americans.

The Supreme Court is hearing cases like these because the conservative movement has been ruthless in its pursuit to remake the courts to support their causes. The Trump administration appointed 234 federal judges during Trump's four years in office, including three Supreme Court justices. That is one quarter of the ENTIRE federal judiciary.

While we don't know how the Court will rule in this case, we need to be proactive in our efforts to make sure that progressives are the ones appointing judges for the duration of Joe Biden's term in office. That means expanding Democratic majorities in 2022.
