I was chatting with some longtime supporters and they were asking me about the future of Groundwork, which made me realize it’s been a bit since I updated you on what I have been personally up to behind the scenes.
My days are mostly filled with having conversations. Hearing from organizers, operatives, and activists about the challenges we are facing as a party and looking to examples of programs that could be scaled to meet them. There’s a clear consensus that the only way forward is to lean on the local organizations and activists on the ground to lead the way. The boom and bust campaign cycle isn’t getting the job done.
I view Groundwork’s mission to turn the focus to these hyperlocal organizations and funnel national resources -- both financially and through volunteer support -- where they can have the biggest impact.
I’m preparing to introduce you to more long term planning and focus for Groundwork very soon! But, in the meantime, I need your help to have a strong foundation for Groundwork’s mission. Donate now to Groundwork’s Operational Fund. [[link removed]]
It’s important to me that you know how your money will be put to work. Right now, I’m expanding our Groundwork team so that we can connect with more organizations and activists nationwide. We’re doing a deep landscape survey of the states out there that rarely get the time of day from Democrats.
We’re also looking closely at some of the regressive policy efforts sweeping the country, on issues like voting rights and trans rights, and learning how local organizers are fighting back. I’m seeing where they need resources to expand their work and what challenges they are looking to overcome in the near future to see how Groundwork can fill gaps.
I’m not ready to give you the full deep dive, but I assure you that we are very close to announcing our next moves. I can’t wait to fill you in!
It’s clear that having immediate resources is a concern for many of those I’m connecting with. I’m dedicating my April End of Month budget deadline to filling our Operational Fund so that we are ready the moment we announce next steps.
That’s why I’m reaching out to you today. Tomorrow -- and what we have in the door -- will be key to our discussions about how many states, organizations, and policy fights we can include in the next phase of expanding Groundwork’s efforts.
Can I count on you to donate now? [[link removed]]
Thank you for your continued trust, patience, and attention as we get Groundwork off the ground.
More soon!
Joe
Groundwork Project was founded by Joe Kennedy III to support community organizers, advocates, and activists nationwide who are working year-round to build a just, free, and equitable future for all. For decades, the Democratic Party has under-resourced, under-valued, and under-recognized the importance of local political infrastructure and year-round grassroots organizing. This needs to change.
We're directing resources, attention, and support to the local advocates and state-based organizations doing the deep, long-term organizing that Democrats need to build a more diverse party, expand its base, win elections, and deliver progressive policy reforms. Contribute now. [[link removed]]
