I’m working with Bernie Sanders to push Biden and our Democratic colleagues to support groundbreaking health care improvements in this next package.
President Biden deserves recognition for laying the foundations for a just economic recovery. But he hasn’t yet fulfilled his own campaign promises on health care.
President Biden said during his campaign that he wanted to lower the Medicare eligibility age. But it hasn’t been included in the American Families Plan that he presented to Congress last night. I’m working with my friend Bernie Sanders to push Biden and all of our Democratic colleagues to support groundbreaking health care improvements in this next big package.
As our fight for Medicare for All continues, we have a chance to take a giant step towards single payer health care right now by lowering the Medicare eligibility age, expanding its benefits to include dental, vision, and hearing, and finally lowering the cost of prescription drugs.
President Biden can take this big step and immediately get health care to tens of millions of people! Chip in $3 or more today to help us push for these transformative health care policies on the way to single payer health care. We’re trying to hit 3,500 contributions before the end of the month, and I need you to make one of them.
Chip in $3
Here are the health care reforms we’re talking about:
- Lowering the Medicare eligibility age to 55: This would immediately extend coverage to 40 million people, including many who lost insurance during the pandemic.
- Improving Medicare benefits to cover dental, vision, and hearing care, and cap out-of-pocket costs: This will finally give folks on Medicare much needed coverage to see the dentist, get hearing aids, and afford a new pair of glasses.
- Empower Medicare to negotiate drug prices for everyone: The U.S. spends far more than any other country on prescription drugs, despite Medicare Part D being the largest purchaser. We need the government to use its power to negotiate drug prices down for everyone.
Reports say all of these policies may be left OUT of the American Families Plan. That’s why I led a letter signed by more than 80 lawmakers from across the Democratic party that urges President Biden to immediately include these policies in the legislative package.
Millions of working people who relied on our broken, for-profit health care system have lost their insurance during this pandemic because they lost their job. These health care reforms are key steps to get care to folks who have been left without insurance and without the ability to afford care under our current system. These major health care reforms will expand public coverage and get us a big step closer to Medicare for All.
Can you chip in $3 to help us win this expansion of public health care on our way to Medicare for All? We need your support right now so we can ensure more people get the health care they need.
Expanding Medicare and lowering prescription drug costs are incredibly popular issues across the political spectrum. Medicare for All is incredibly popular too! If we can get these big health care wins, we can get to Medicare for All.
In solidarity,
Pramila
