If you want to know what bold, innovative progress looks like, look at what we just accomplished in Washington.

Last weekend, lawmakers wrapped up a historic session that brought remarkable progress on climate, equity, and more. Their work will improve the lives of every Washingtonian and become a progressive roadmap for action across the country. All this could never have happened without countless Washingtonians being part of the movement: voting, contacting their elected representatives, educating their friends, ensuring their voices were heard. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being part of the action.

Here are just a few highlights from the session:

* We made historic progress in the fight to end the climate crisis. We passed the Climate Commitment Act to limit and reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our economy and invest in programs that expand clean transportation and improve air quality.

* We passed a clean fuel standard, which promotes the use of electric vehicles and lower-carbon fuels, leading to reduced carbon emissions and new, local jobs in clean energy.

* We made our regressive tax system fairer by passing a capital gains tax and funding the Working Families Tax Credit, bringing us closer to a system in which every Washingtonian pays their fair share.

* We're taking action to reform policing in the pursuit of justice. We funded a new office to investigate police use-of-force cases and restored voting rights to formerly incarcerated Washingtonians.

* We're taking aggressive action on gun safety. We banned the open carry of firearms at the State Capitol and permitted protest sites.

* We grew our commitment to defeating this pandemic and supporting Washingtonians through this crisis. We allocated $1.1 billion in federal funds to help households impacted by the pandemic avoid eviction or foreclosure and to boost testing, contact tracing, and vaccine distribution.

We've been working toward these policies for years, and I'm thrilled to sign them into law. Thank you for stepping up and adding your voice to demand progress. Because of you, we're making history -- and continuing to make Washington the best state to call home.
