John, we have good news:

Vanita Gupta has been confirmed -- and she's now the first woman of color and first civil rights attorney to serve as Associate Attorney General.

The GOP poured millions into blocking this confirmation, John. Following the same strategy they used against Deb Haaland, Republicans tried to paint Gupta as a “radical” and “dangerous” leftist -- and again, they failed.

We will all benefit when our leaders in Congress work together to support diverse leadership that looks like the people it serves. Gupta's confirmation is only further proof that even the GOP's millions can't stand in the way of progress.

But we won't make the mistake of overlooking the challenges AAPI leaders face. Gupta is an experienced civil rights lawyer who dedicated years to protecting voting rights and advocating for racial justice. This should have been an easy confirmation -- instead, she was narrowly confirmed with a 51-49 vote. Only one Republican voted in her favor.

This is an important victory, and we want to make sure that we continue to see leaders like Gupta representing us at the federal, state, and local level. Our voices need to be elevated -- not silenced to appease an overwhelmingly white political system. But we're a grassroots-fueled organization, and right now, we can't do our best work because our fundraising has taken a dip.
