Dear Friends,

I want to share two opportunities for you to join in a virtual iftar, the daily time of breaking the fast during Ramadan. Both iftars will feature Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a former Guantanamo detainee, as a guest speaker. The recent Hollywood film The Mauritanian depicts his fight for freedom after being detained, tortured, and imprisoned without charge in Guantanamo – the film is available for streaming and you can download our discussion guide.

On May 4 at 6pm ET, join in a Human Rights Iftar sponsored by Amnesty International USA. The event features Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a former Guantanamo detainee who was held for 14 years without charge or trial. RSVP here.

On May 6 at 7pm ET, NRCAT is co-sponsoring a Social Justice Iftar with Justice for Muslims Collective. Speakers will include two former Guantanamo detainees, Mohamedou Ould Slahi and Mansoor Adayfi, author of the forthcoming book Don’t Forget Us Here. Also speaking will be Robert Saleem Holbrook, Executive Director of the Abolitionist Law Center; Aliya Hana Hussain, Advocacy Program Manager for the Center for Constitutional Rights; and the Peace Poets. RSVP here.

Also, tonight at 7pm ET the Muslim Public Affairs Council is holding a forum with Mohamedou Ould Slahi and Nancy Hollander, the defense attorney that won his habeas corpus case - RSVP here.

I hope you will be able to attend one or both iftars or tonight's forum, and have the opportunity to hear from their amazing line up of speakers.

Sincerely,

Rev. T.C. Morrow
Director of Finance & Operations
